You want to make a difference …
Stephen Covey writes about 4 human capacities that empower us to make a difference (The 8th Habit). In our quest to lead a powerful life, these 4 capacities together release the expression of our voice: vision, discipline, passion, and conscience.
“VISION is seeing with the mind’s eye what is possible in people, in projects, in causes and in enterprises” … Vision orients and directs our life towards a preferred future.
“DISCIPLINE is paying the price to bring that vision into reality” … Personal discipline channels our energies and aspirations. It brings it into the real world.
“PASSION is the fire, the desire, the strength of conviction and the drive that sustains the discipline to achieve the vision” … It is fuel. It takes passion to burst through membranes into new territory.
“CONSCIENCE is the inward moral sense of what is right and what is wrong, the drive toward meaning and contribution” … Living and working without a compass is futile. We are wired to be accurate.
Good writers are concerned about voice. We know about the writer’s voice. More fundamental than that is our life-voice.
The nexus, the synergy of these 4 capacities ignites the fire within as we discover our unique life-voice.
