eBooks are Mainstreaming

We are watching a digital revolution in publishing …

“New Face of Publishing” insiders have known that eReaders would drop below the magic $100 price point, further accelerating eBook sales.  Sales of eBooks have already surpassed trade paper sales.  This will only increase as eBooks go mainstream.

Impressive. B & N’s new Simple Touch Reader.

Barnes and Noble announced yesterday that it now has 25% of the eBook market.  This is up from 20% a year ago. (Amazon has about 50% and everyone else the other 25%).  Sales of ebooks continue to skyrocket – Amazon continues to sell more than paper books.

B & N also rolled out their new eReader, The Simple Touch Reader.  The advancements on the new B & N eReader are impressive:

  • There’s only one button – an on/off switch on the upper back.  Everything is controlled with an eInk touch screen.
  • Although the overall size is smaller than the Kindle, the screen size is the same.
  • At under 8 ounces, it’s one ounce lighter than the Kindle 3.
  • Battery life is up to two months, double the Kindle and way ahead of everyone else.
  • World’s largest eBookstore – over 2 million titles.

This is impressive.  The Simple Touch Reader competes directly with Amazon’s Wi-Fi-only Kindle 3.  Both are priced at $139.  Amazon will have to respond.  Isn’t the free market a beautiful thing?  It’s official.  I’m a Nook man!
